Every fifth woman gains weight after mar­riage dur­ing the first year of mar­riage, accord­ing to the pop­u­lar British tabloid The Dai­ly Mail.

About 20% of the fair sex sig­nif­i­cant­ly gain weight after mar­riage, accord­ing to British researchers.

The study involved 300 women. As it turned out, every fifth par­tic­i­pant recov­ered by 9.5 kilo­grams dur­ing the first year of mar­riage.

The rea­sons for such a sharp weight gain can be dif­fer­ent. But in 42% of cas­es, women sim­ply relaxed after mar­riage and imper­cep­ti­bly gained extra pounds.

Many new­ly-mar­ried wives find it dif­fi­cult to stick to healthy eat­ing habits after mar­riage. And 25% of the study admit­ted that they recov­ered due to emo­tion­al overeat­ing. Food replaced their thrills, which grad­u­al­ly fad­ed away after the wed­ding.

22% of par­tic­i­pants admit­ted that they stopped mon­i­tor­ing their diet, as they no longer had the need to impress their man.

Accord­ing to sci­en­tists, a sharp weight gain after mar­riage had a neg­a­tive impact on rela­tion­ships between part­ners, and in 21% of cas­es it was extra pounds that caused a divorce.
