British scientists have found out why people who go on a diet often fail and quit. The researchers are sure that it is not only the strong feeling of hunger experienced by a person who restricts himself in nutrition.
The main enemy of the diet is alcohol. It turns out that in half the cases, a glass of alcohol is to blame for the fact that a person “breaks” from a diet and overeats.
Such data were obtained on the basis of research by experts at the University of Birmingen, who studied a group of 80 volunteers. This group includes people who aim to lose weight or simply want to control their weight.
All subjects had to enter information about events and factors influencing the process of going through the diet into special electronic diaries.
It turned out that the desire to break the diet in a person arose an average of 11 times during the week. Half the time, people gave in to temptation and broke their diets. Especially often it happened after drinking alcohol.
Experts explain this by the fact that alcoholic beverages have a relaxing effect on the body and dull a person’s sense of responsibility. This leads people to give in to their desire to eat the extra bite.
By the way, most people tend to break the diet in the evening. Therefore, experts recommend not to visit places where there are high risks of “breaking loose”. The main thing is to endure the first time, then the craving for gluttony will weaken and it will become much easier to control your appetite.
