Antibiotics for angina: is it necessary to take

March 31, 2016, 2:04 p.m

Several decades ago, antibiotic therapy for acute tonsillitis was mandatory. So the doctors were reinsured, trying to prevent the development of complications. Today, antibiotics are prescribed only if the causative agent of angina is bacteria (strepto- or staphylococci) and the disease is severe.

It is almost impossible to distinguish between viral and bacterial tonsillitis on your own. To do this, it is necessary to conduct a bacteriological examination of a smear from the pharynx. This is a standard analysis that is done in almost all clinics. But the problem is that waiting for the results takes several days, and you need to treat a sore throat right away. Otherwise, the likelihood of developing dangerous complications increases significantly. To prevent this, doctors have developed criteria that help assess the patient’s condition and determine the possible cause of the disease.

Four or more points indicate the bacterial nature of angina. This means that taking antibiotics is necessary and it is better to start the course immediately. Two or three points allow you to wait for the results of a throat swab.

Preparations of complex action

When choosing a drug for the treatment of angina, it is better to give preference to drugs with a complex effect. They are equally effective in both viral and bacterial angina. This is, for example, the German natural drug Tonsilotren. Thanks to a combination of five components, it relieves inflammation and stimulates the body’s own defense mechanisms against viral and bacterial infections of the pharynx at different stages of inflammation. Tonsilotren relieves inflammation and restores the protective function of the tonsils, reduces their volume. With angina, Tonsilotren helps to cleanse the lacunae of the tonsils from traffic jams, relieves swelling and inflammation of the lymph nodes. It is also important that in addition to the treatment of throat diseases, it contributes to the normalization of the immunity of the whole organism as a whole and prevents recurrent diseases. The effectiveness and good tolerability of Tonsilotren have been confirmed by numerous clinical studies.
